In the wake of heavy rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, the strategic 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was on Thursday closed for vehicular traffic, a police officer said.
"Rain and snowfall is going on along the Jammu Srinagar National Highway and as a precautionary measure, movement of fresh traffic on the highway has been stopped," SSP Traffic (Highway) Sanjay Kotwal said.
He said that the stranded traffic was being cleared on the highway.
"All the vehicles that are stranded on the highway are being allowed to proceed, whereas movement of fresh traffic from Jammu and Udhampur has been stopped," the SSP said.
He said that further decision to allow the traffic would be taken only after the rain and snowfall stops.
"Once the rain and snowfall stops, we can take further decision on the movement of traffic on the highway," Kotwal said.
