Jamuna slams Govt for ?ignoring? social sector

india Updated: Feb 04, 2007 15:40 IST

LEADER OF Opposition Jamuna Devi on Saturday alleged that the State Government has ignored the social sector. In a statement issued on Saturday, the senior Congress leader said such is negligence of the sector that the BJP Government has failed to release the Human Development Report (HDR) ever since it came to power.

Referring a report of the Reserve Bank of India, Jamnua said the bank clearly mentioned that expenditure on health and education sectors reduced considerably in Madhya Pradesh.

It is unfortunate, she said, the total expenditure on education was reduced from 12.3 per cent in 2001-02 to 10 per cent and that of health sector declined from 4.18 per cent of total expenditure to 3.5 per cent in 2005-06.

The Congress leader said expenditure on social sector should be improved to improve Human Development indicators. The BJP Government has committed a major mistake while deciding its priorities, she alleged.
