Jan Sunwai on REGS tomorrow

A JAN Sunwai (people?s court) on the implementation of the MP Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme will be held at Gandhi Bhavan in Bhopal on November 1, with an objective to review its implementation status.

A JAN Sunwai (people’s court) on the implementation of the MP Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme will be held at Gandhi Bhavan in Bhopal on November 1, with an objective to review its implementation status.

The sunwai is being organised by voluntary organisation Samarthan, along with other supporting organisations of the Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) project and Wada Na Todo (Don’t break promise) campaign.

The beneficiaries of the scheme including women, Dalits, panchs, sarpanchs and field workers of involved voluntary organisations will be attending the Sunwai and will be sharing their experiences and presenting case studies.

The experiences will be based mainly on rules and provisions of the scheme and include aspects like job card, provision of employment and payment of wages, allotment to panchayats by the Janpads, role of the monitoring and vigilance system, facilities at the place of work, various irregularities in the scheme and others.

A report based on the Sunwai proceedings will be presented to the State Government so that the implementation of the scheme could be improved in the future.

Former chairman of the MP Human Rights Commission Justice R D Shukla (retired), Sharad Joshi of Jaipur, Mihir Shah from Bagli, director of National Law Institute University Dr Balraj Chouhan, editor of Dainik Bhaskar Abhilash Khandekar, journalist Deepak Tiwari and Kiran Sharma of PACS, New Delhi will be the members of jury.

The MPREGS was initiated in 18 districts of  the State in February this year along with 200 districts of country with the objective of providing employment opportunities to poor people of the State.

Voluntary organisations working in field of livelihood lend support to the implementation of the scheme and this sunwai is a review of the effectiveness of the implementation of the scheme.
