In a sudden volte face Jawad, who after his recent meetings with Yadav had softened his tone, told newsmen here on Saturday that the ruling Samajwadi Party was “a party of criminals and mafiosi”.

He said the Yadav government had withdrawn criminal cases against “Shivpal Singh Yadav, Ahmad Hasan, Raja Bhaiyya (all ministers), Ateeq Ahmad (SP MP) and others” but a large numbers of innocent Muslims were still in jails and the government had done nothing.

Giving a clean chit to Maulana Waliullah of Phoolpur, who was nabbed in connection with the Varanasi serial blasts, Jawad demanded his immediate release.

The PDF chief also demanded a white paper on Yadav’s meeting with Israeli envoy David Danieli. He said instead of punishing a police officer involved in the Maliana-Hashimpura communal riots in the eighties, the present government had promoted him to IG rank. He said even now atrocities were being committed on Muslims at the behest of the government.

Jawad denied making any deal with the chief minister and said he met him only to solve some problems of the community.

He said the PDF was firmly “in saddle and would contest the coming assembly elections”. About alliance with Jan Morcha Alliance of former Prime Minister VP Singh, he said there was so far no decision on the issue.

Expressing concern over criminalisation of politics, Jawad said “the state machinery is now functioning more as defender and facilitator of the interests of musclemen and criminals”.

He said muscle power had hijacked the democratic process in the state. Jawad said the government should give at least 20 per cent representation to Muslims in on-going recruitment in PAC. He said the PDF would take out a public awareness rally from Ghazipur to Ghaziabad from August 23.
