OPPOSITION NOTWITHSTANDING, a commercial complex, allegedly on Waqf land, is ready in Hazratganj. Erected adjacent to the Sahu cinema, the construction of the commercial complex on land of the Rani Saltanat Waqf had initially faced resistance from Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad, who surprisingly paid a visit to the building today.

In an informal chat with scribes, Jawad clarified that he was there only to offer tributes to Imam Jafare Sadiq on the occasion of the 22nd day of the Islamic month of Rajab. Jawad addressed the managers of the Rani Saltanat Plaza that the Waqf land was an inherited Shia property and would continue to be so even through the builder’s contract. He added that the kin of the caretaker would continue to be entitled to share in the earnings of the commercial complex for generations to come. The complex has about three-dozen shops.

Jawad said since the contract was with due regard of the executer of the waqf, he gave up resisting its construction. The cleric was honoured on the occasion by members of the Shia Personal Law Board. The inauguration of the complex would be announced later.
