Charging the Union Surface Transport Minister TR Baalu of wasting taxpayer's money to implement the Sethusamudram Project, AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa on Friday demanded his and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's resignation.

While Baalu had claimed that 70 per cent of the work on the project was already completed, Union Programme Implementation Ministry officials had stated only 15 per cent of the work was over, she said in a statement.

Even if the Supreme Court vacated its stay of the dredging work for the project, only 25 per cent of the project work could be completed in a year and it would take four years for completion of the entire project, while Baalu had made a "false" claim that it would be completed next year, she said.

"Baalu is deceiving the people by his statements," she said.
