AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa today listed an 18 point charter of demands to help suffering Lankan Tamils in the island nation, including resettlement of those lodged in transit camps and relief for those rehabilitated.
Steps to help Sri Lankan Tamils in education, housing, renovation and repair of schools, temples, churches and treatment for war victims are among the other demands.
"The Centre and the Tamil Nadu governments must ensure that the Lankan government fulfills these promises and resettles the Tamils," she said in a statement here.
She alleged that lakhs of Tamils were being housed in camps without any facilities and treated like slaves, though the war between the Lankan army and LTTE had ended a year back.
Even after the visit by a delegation of MPs from Tamil Nadu to Lanka and subsequent visit of Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to India and his promises that Tamils would be rehabilitated in their original places, there was no improvement in the their living conditions and they continued to suffer in transit camps, she alleged.
On India's assurance that it would provide Rs 1,000 crore for construction of 50,000 houses for Sri Lankan Tamils, she sought to know whether the Rs 500 crore granted by India earlier had been properly utilised for Tamils.
