TAKING A serious view of spread of Japanese encephalitis in some parts of UP affecting thousands of children, the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed principal secretary and director general, Medical and Health, to appear before the Court on September 12 with a detailed report with regard to the steps taken in the matter.
Passing this order, Justice Sunil Ambwani also directed these officials to explain to the people of the State, especially the residents of eastern UP, about the steps taken during the year for containing the outbreak of the disease and for this purpose, prepare and publish a ‘white paper’, to be widely circulated in newspaper so that the claims may be verified, and reports obtained verifying the remedial measures taken by them.
Narrating the directives passed by this Court last year also in this regard, the Court said, “It was expected that this year the State Government will equip the Health Department, to take sufficient measures, for containing any fresh outbreak of the disease, which spreads only in and after rainy season.”
“The Court cannot sit silent in these matters. The medical institutions have not yet completed studies to recommend standardized treatment for either of these infections, affecting the outer membrance of the brain,” the court said.
