The highly decomposed bodies of an airhostess and her boyfriend were recovered by the police from their flat in south Chennai.

Identified as Shilpa, 24, from Bangalore, the woman worked with Jet Airways, the police said. The boyfriend, identified as Jayant, said to be from Delhi, worked in a call centre in the city.

The police said the two had died four days earlier.

According to reports, Shilpa's body was found lying on the bed of her Valmiki Nagar flat late on Thursday with a rope around her neck and Jayant was found hanging from the ceiling. Further, the room in which they were found was locked from inside.

Shilpa's parents had reportedly contacted the police after she failed to answer her phone for the past four days. They rushed to her flat, only to find it locked from inside.

Police suspect that Jayant could have murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself. They, however, did not rule out suicide by both the deceased.

The two were reportedly living together in the two-bedroom flat.
