President APJ Abdul Kalam nominated Jethmalani after a recommendation from the Government.
Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani was on Monday nominated to the Rajya Sabha against the vacancy created due to the death of a member.

The senior Supreme Court lawyer was nominated to fill the seat which fell vacant due to the demise of Vidya Niwas Misra, who died in a road accident last year.
Jethmalani, whose term as Rajya Sabha member ended on April 2, will continue till August 2009 which was the remainder of the term of Misra.
