Jewel thief turns coy!

india Updated: Aug 19, 2006 18:29 IST

A veiled woman has been arrested for a series of loot and theft from a jewellery shop in Lucknow.
For quite sometime, the customers and shop owners of a jewellery shop were puzzled by the presence of a veiled person who would come like a ghost and vanish after stealing or snatching gold at gunpoint.
For many days, rumours spread that a ghost was on the prowl or that a burly man was looting people behind the veil. But the robber turned out to be a coy female!

However, the police have arrested Shaheen, a resident of Neelmatha Colony in Cantonment area. The woman would sometimes wear skirt, sometimes a sari under the burqa. While robbing or snatching jewellery, she would cover her face with a burqa so that her identity remains undisclosed.

After looting her victims, she would hide the jewellery in her pockets or stuff it inside her shirt and would disappear like a phantom after discarding the burqa at a distance.

Then she would walk gently in a skirt like a schoolgirl without suspicion. She has discarded as many as 12 burqas (veils). She would wear costly perfume so as not to attract suspicion

According to Sarojni Nagar police station in-charge Inspector VB Tewari, she was responsible for theft and loot in Shringar Jewellers, Rajajipuram, and jewellery shops in Naka Hindola, Chowk and Yahiyaganj.
According to Sub-Inspector KM Rai, Shaeen was once was caught on suspicion but was released when she befooled the police that she was an activist of a political party.
