Three Nepali watchmen were arrested on Thursday for stealing jewellery worth Rs 9 lakh from a jewellery store in Ramchandranagar, Thane (West).
One of them, Tulbahadur Saud, 30, worked as a watchman at Bhavesh Society, where the jewellery store, Vijay Jewellers was located.
“During investigation, we found that Saud went missing on October 5, the day the robbery took place. We interrogated his friend, another Nepali watchman, and obtained information about him. Two other Nepali watchmen were also missing. With help from our informers, we were able to nab Saud, Bharat Vishwakarma alias Bika, 26, and Bir Bahadur Saud, 52,” said deputy commissioner of police (zone V) Ashok Morale.
The police recovered jewellery worth Rs 6.35 lakh from the accused. “Saud slept at the backdoor of the store and was aware about the timings. They broke open the backdoor of the shop and stole the jewellery,” said Morale.
Since Vijay Jewellers didn’t have CCTV camera, the police took some time to arrest the accused. They were produced in court and have been remanded in custody until October 19.
