Jharkhand Andolankari Manch (JAM) and Jharkhand Andolankari Morcha jointly called 24-hour state-wide bandh on Tuesday demanding 'due honour' for the activists who took part in the movement for Jharkhand state.

Several people sacrificed their lives for separate statehood but hundreds of cases against them have been pending, Convener of JAM and a BJP leader Surya Singh Besra said in Jamshedpur on Monday, adding All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) has also extended support to the bandh.

He said five decades of movement by Jharkhandi activists led to the creation of Jharkhand in 2000 but cases against more than 5500 such activists were still pending in various courts in the state.

Demanding due honour for the activists, Besra said they should be given pension, medical facilities and travel allowances.
