The Garhwa district administration has transferred a teacher and two non-teaching employees who allegedly served liquor and showed porn movies to the students of the Kudrum government residential school.

The action followed an HT report -- ‘Govt school students given liquor, shown pornography’ -- published on Sept 14. The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), a human right organization, in its fact finding report had made the revelation.

A five-member team of PUCL had visited the residential school following reports that the students had held their teachers captive and harassed them. There are around 280 students in the Kudrum residential school.

In its report, PUCL quoted the district welfare officer (DWO), Janardhan Ram, as saying that the warden gave liquor and showed pornography to the students. “The findings astounded us,” said PUCL former state secretary Suresh Manas.

Ram confirmed the transfers. The district administration has also sought explanation from the school principal Ganesh Singh Munda as what went wrong and the details of the findings of the PUCL team that visited the school campus.
