Unidentified persons abducted the sons of two prominent businessmen in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district and demanded Rs twenty lakh for their release, police said on Tuesday.

Hazaribagh is the political playground of former minister and Congress legislator Yogendra Sao who was arrested recently for raising and patronising two outfits which were involved in criminal activities including kidnappings.

The two class eight students – identified as Sekhar (11) and Badal (13) -- were kidnapped by a group of four persons from a playground in Bonga village on Monday afternoon.

The miscreants – who escaped on a vehicle -- also tried to kidnap one their friends Bunti, who was also in the playground.

However, they left behind Bunti after he started shouting for help.

The village in around 12 km from Hazaribagh and 120 km from capital Ranchi.

Parents of the kidnapped children later received phone calls from the suspected kidnappers asking for a total ransom of Rs 20 lakh for the safe release of the boys.

Both Sekhar’s father Laxman Prasad Mehta and Badal’s father Kishori Prasad Mehta own stone-crushing units at Ichak.

Police have lodged an FIR against unknown abductors.

Deputy police superintendent Arvind Kumar Singh said that they were trying to track the phone number used by the abductors.

“We have got several clues about the abductors after tracking their mobile phone number,” Hazaribagh superintendent of police Akhilesh Jha said.

He said the first priority of police was to rescue the boys.
