Jumpsuits haven’t fallen off celebrity wishlists. Sonam Kapoor was spotted in a Stella McCartney piece and Sushmita Sen was seen strutting around in a Lanvin jumpsuit. Clearly, this utility dress is finding its way into the wardrobes of fashion forward girls.
A jumpsuit can be an off-shoulder, like a tube top, or with sleeves. The waist is either dropped down or high (sitting on the curve of the torso).Jump or dungaree? Those new to this garment might get confused between a dungaree and a jumpsuit. While both are made as a single piece, there’s a slight difference in the construction.
“Well, a dungaree comes with suspenders (straps), has an apron-like flap in the front and its sides (till your waist) are open. It’s usually worn with a blouse, spaghetti or tube. A jumpsuit is an outfit in itself and better not worn with a blouse. You would rather wear a jacket on top of it,” says designer Asmita Marwah.
Can you wear it?
It suits both casual and semi-formal occasions, but you have to be slim to carry off this silhouette well. “Tall and slim women can look stunning in them. If you are overweight and wearing a wrong jumpsuit, it can be a fashion disaster. But that doesn’t mean petite women can’t wear it. Just be careful about the fit,” says designer Masaba, who showed ikat, georgette and mulmul jumpsuits in her recent resort wear collection.
