india Updated: Jun 18, 2010 17:47 IST

Around 50 pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists, including its chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, on Friday, courted arrest in Srinagar beginning the group's week-long agitational 'jail bharo' programme.

The JKLF activists' march was led from the party's headquarters in uptown Maisuma locality of the city by Malik.

The marchers shouting pro-independence slogans and against the Indian security forces for alleged violations of human rights in Kashmir reached the nearby city centre - Lal Chowk.

Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed in strength in the area.
