JLN School win opener

JAWAHAR LAL Nehru School of Bhopal began their journey in the CBSE National Hockey Tournament, being organised by Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MVM), Ratanpur, with a win over the strong Amity International School. The tournament commenced at Maj Dhyanchand Grounds of Barkatullah University on Wednesday.

JAWAHAR LAL Nehru School of Bhopal began their journey in the CBSE National Hockey Tournament, being organised by Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MVM), Ratanpur, with a win over the strong Amity International School. The tournament commenced at Maj Dhyanchand Grounds of Barkatullah University on Wednesday.

Jawahar Lal Nehru School and MVM Ratanpur are the only teams from Bhopal participating in the national tourney. Playing in their first match of Under-19 boys’ category, Jawahar Lal Nehru School faced a tough fight from the visitors.

But the good coordination among the forward line of the home team made them winner 2-1. For the home side, Yousuf and Abbasi netted the ball. The only goal from the losing side was scored by Hemant Singh.

On the inaugural day, eight matches were played. In the other match, Ganga International School Delhi registered a 10-0
victory over Coimbatore.

Jaipur blanked Hyderabad 3-0. Priyavart and Anubhav scored goals for the winning side. Pooja Model School Ghaziabad registered a 6-0 win over JK School in the fourth match.

The famous Rohtak team convincingly defeated Hanumangarh by 5-1. Manish and Vishvendra were the scorers. In the last match Bijapur defeated Rampur 2-1.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated in a colourful function. Chief guest of the opening ceremony, PWD Minister Kailash Vijayvargia, declared the meet open. Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the MVM management for hosting a national hockey tournament in the City. Students of MVM Ratanpur and others presented various cultural programme. Organising committee secretary and MVM Ratanpur School Principal Dr S N Rai proposed the vote of thanks.

On the occasion, Former MP Kailash Sarang, IG Bhopal Sanjeev Kumar Singh, SAI regional director AK Sharma, Maharishi Vidya Mandir Group chairman Brahmchari Girishchandra Verma, Bhuvneshwar Sharma, Barkatullah University (BU) V-C Dr R S Sirohi, BU Physical Education Department Director Dr Akhilesh Sharma  and others were present.
