An effigy of U.S. Secretary of state Hillary Clinton was burned by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha activists in protest against the frisking of former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam by the Continental Airlines at the international airport in Delhi on Wednesday.
Anti-Hillary slogan shouting JMM activists led by Debojit Mukherjee, the secretary of JMM central committee, took out a procession, which passed through the main thoroughfare of Sakchi in Jamshedpur before it culminated at Sakchi round-about.
Later, they set the effigy of Clinton on fire.
"The treatment of Kalam was an insult to the entire country", he said while demanding stringent action against the erring official.
Talking to newsmen, Mukherjee said Dr. Kalam was not the first victim of such an approach. Former Union minister George Fernandes and the Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee had also undergone such humiliating treatment in the past, he said.
Mukherjee expressed surprise that Clinton was currently in the country to strengthen ties between the two country but did not condemn the incident.
