Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Thursday told the state administration to open the radial gate at Chandil Dam by July 19 otherwise it would launch phase-wise agitation in Saraikela-Kharswan district against the government's decision in this regard.
"JMM along with the local residents will be forced to stage Maha-dharna on National Highway 33 and put up chakka Jam if the state administration did not open the radial gate of Chandil dam by July 19," said JMM national vice-president Sudhir Mahto.
Addressing a press conference here Mahto said the state administration had closed the radial gate without making any arrangement for rehabilitation and compensations to 5000 to 7000 villagers likely to be affected.
The radial gate of the dam was closed since June 30 to store water but 50 to 60 villages in the vicinity will be submerged, Mahto apprehended.
"It was really unfortunate that the radial gate was shut when the state was under president's rule," he rued stating that the government should have made arrangement to rehabilitate and compensate the villagers before implementing its decision.
Meanwhile, the indefinite fast organised by Visthapith Mukti Vahini (VMV) and other anti-displacement organisation since July 10 near the dam entered sixth day on Thursday.
Anti-displacement organisations including Jharkhand Mukti Vahini, Chatra Yuva Sangharsh Vahini and Janmukti Sangharsh Vahini were demanding to open the radial gates immediately.
They are also demanding rehabilitation and compensation to affected families, enhancement in rehabilitation package, setting up of lift irrigations and deep boring.
VMV sources said the radial gate was closed to store water in Chandil Dam to 182 meter level.
