In an interesting political development, a top JMM leader on Wednesday appealed people to vote for Congress candidate from Jharkhand's Godda Lok Sabha seat, where JMM supremo Shibu Soren's son Durga Soren is contesting on the party ticket.

"JMM has an alliance with Congress for Lok Sabha polls in Jharkhand. I appeal people to vote for Congress candidate Furkan Ansari in Godda," JMM Vice-President, Hemlal Murmu told a poll rally in the presence of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Durga Soren had surprised Congress and some JMM leaders when he filed nomination papers from Godda as the JMM candidate. He had said he would avenge his father's defeat in Tamar assembly bypoll, a loss junior Soren blamed on the Congress.

Congress and JMM are locked in a fight in Koderma, Hazaribag and Godda Lok Sabha seats, leaving the poll tie-up in disarray.

Rahul Gandhi came in Deogarh to rally support for Ansari. The Godda seat will go to the polls on April 23.

JMM supremo Shibu Soren, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital in New Delhi, is contesting from Dumka Lok Sabha seat and Jamtara assembly seat.
