A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader of Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawa district was shot dead by Maoists early on Saturday, police said.

According to the police, around 10-15 rebels abducted Dushashan Mahto from his house at Chandil area of Seraikela-Kharsawa district, some 110 km from Ranchi, around 1.30 am on Saturday. They took him to a nearby jungle and shot him dead.

Mahto's body was recovered Saturday morning and has been sent for post-mortem examination.

He was woken up on Friday night and abducted by the rebels at gun point.

The rebels left a pamphlet claiming he was a police informer.
