THE UNION Urban Development Ministry has approved another scheme for Bhopal worth Rs 13 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The Bhopal Municipal Corporation would construct 989 houses for the urban poor under this scheme.
In a meeting on Friday at New Delhi, the Union Government approved the proposal for construction of 989 houses for urban poor at Indira Nagar slum near Bus Stop No 12.
During past one year, the Union Government has approved schemes worth Rs 403 crore for Bhopal under the JNNURM. At the beginning of the current financial year, the Union Government had approved similar scheme worth Rs 90 crore for the urban poor. In May last year, another scheme worth Rs 30 crore was approved. In July last year, schemes worth Rs 82.16 crore for infrastructure development were approved. More than 80 slums were identified for development of infrastructure under this scheme.
Under various schemes, the multistoreyed apartments for urban poor would be constructed in different localities. The houses would include two rooms, kitchen and a toilet. The scheme for construction of houses for urban poor, worth Rs 172 crore, si also being implemented in the areas include Aradhana Nagar, Ganga Nagar, Indira Nagar, Baba Nagar, Arjun Nagar, Kainchi Chhola and Idgah Hills.
