The issue of reservations in the private sector figured in the Lok Sabha on Monday with members of Samajwadi Party and the Left enquiring from the government about the assurance it had given in this regard.
Ramji Lal Suman of SP raised the matter during zero hour saying that the UPA government had promised to provide reservations to SC and ST in the private sector but there had been no progress in this direction so far.
He was supported by Basudeb Acharia of CPI-M and Shailendra Kumar (SP).
Responding to them, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said the government was seized of the matter and he would convey their views to it.
Meanwhile, in a written reply, HRD Minister Arjun Singh informed the House that the policy of reservation for OBC candidates in admissions to Central educational institutions of higher learning would be implemented after the proposed law on it came into force.
