Senior BJP leader and the party's candidate from Varanasi Murali Manohar Joshi has approached the Election Commission seeking removal of police personnel having alleged links with BSP candidate Mukhtar Ansari, prime accused in BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai's murder case.

Joshi has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, in which he has mentioned names of some police personnel deputed in the district whose credentials, he said, were suspected, his media cell in-charge Rakesh Upadhyay said in Varanasi.

Joshi alleged that SHO, Cantonment police station, Inspector Mohd Isha Khan was suspended due to his complicity in the murder of Rai. The same sort of allegations have been made against the police Inspectors Sageer Ahmed and Ram Swarup.

He alleged that all these personnel were posted to the district just before the announcement of the elections to favour the BSP candidate.

Joshi also demanded appropriate action in view of the transfer of some officials to Varanasi at the time of election notification.
