For this nondescript village in Jalgaon district of north Maharashtra, Diwali has arrived four months in advance.
As news that Pratibha Patil, who hails from this village, was on her way to becoming India's first woman President trickled in after counting in the Presidential poll got underway, the village erupted in joy and celebration.
Firecrackers were burst and sweets distributed in the village in Bodhwad tehsil and about 50 km from Jalgaon, as the trends confirmed what was a foregone conclusion -- that their 'beti' (daughter) would soon be ensconced in Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Villagers donned the traditional attire and organised a welcome march to celebrate Patil's victory.
"The celebrations will continue into the night," a villager told a visiting PTI correspondent. "This is a moment of pride not only for us but for the entire state," he said.
