For those who love challenges, here is a chance to home in on the thrill of a lifetime- skydiving. And to get that, you don't have to take the pain of going to Seville, Spain.

Much like the characters in the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, real-life daredevils can jump off an aircraft from nearly 9,000 feet above the sea level, go into a free-fall and then open a parachute to sail to the ground from September 28 to 30 at Dhana Air Strip in Sagar, 185km from Bhopal.

Anyone who is over 16 years of age and weighs less than 90kg can enroll for the second civilian skydiving event in the state by paying Rs 22,599. The 'dream dive' and the preceding training camp will take place in Sagar from September 14 to 16. Forty-five people are likely to be enrolled it.

How long will a person take to learn skydiving? “Six to eight hours. That's it. After about an eight-hour training, each candidate will have to take a written and physical test. For tandem jump, the training period is a little more,” says Talvinder Singh, a graduate in aerospace engineering from IIT-Mumbai, whose company Tushky Events and Entertainment is organising the event.

“This skydiving experience is completely safe since it is conducted by a team of experienced and highly qualified instructors headed by a chief instructor, who is an ex Airforce officer, having 20 years of experience as skydiving instructor. He alone has done 2,300 jumps, from 45 different types of parachute from 15 different types of aircrafts,” says Singh.

“Collectively the team has an experience of 50 years with more than 6,000 jumps,” he says. The first such civilian skydiving event was held also organised by Singh's company in September at Sagar last year with 45 participants. His company has also organised a similar skydiving event in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, last year.

The ground operations are being handled by Chimes Aviation Academy, Madhya Pradesh is known to have state-of-the-art equipment and one of the most regarded pilot training programmes in India. The participating divers will get a CD and pictures of their jump at the end of the event to cherish their memories life long.

DEFINING FEATS

SKYDIVING: This involves jumping off an aeroplane wherein a person takes a free fall till a distance vertically down and then deploys a rectangular, large parachute that is navigable.

SOLO JUMP: A persons jumps alone without making any formation during the free fall.

STATIC LINE JUMP: A newly trained jumper jumps off a plane, generally at a height of 4,000 feet. A string attached with the plane opens the parachute automatically. Here, a person is in free fall for five to eight seconds and then takes nearly five minutes to descend to the ground.

TANDEM JUMP: A couple of jumpers leap off a plane from a height of nearly 9,000 to 10,000 ft. They are in a free fall till they reach 4,000 ft. It is then that they deploy a parachute. The jumpers can make different formations.
