Lives: Marloie, Belgium

Plays: Right-handed

Seed: 7

Grand Slam titles: Five (French Open 2006, 2005, 2003), U.S. Open 2003, Australian Open 2004)

The 1.67-metre Belgian dynamo looks to have finally overcome the nagging illnesses and injuries that have dogged her since she won her first grand slam title in 2003.

Won Olympic gold in Athens 2004 despite suffering with a viral illness that prevented her appearing at Wimbledon. Last year she capped a superb claycourt season by winning the French Open for a third time.

Her backhand is a work of art and with a beefed-up serve she has all the tools to be a big threat at the only grand slam title to elude her so far.
