Day after the local court in Dharamsala convicted four students of Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Aman Satya Kachroo's ragging to death case, college’s sexual harassment committee has recommended strong action against MBBS student, Ashish Sakhlani, who was prime witness in the ragging to death case.
Ashish Sakhlani, room mate of Aman Satya Kachroo, had been suspended from the college for allegedly posting indecent remarks against his female colleagues on facebook.
Reliable sources in college have revealed to Hindustan Times that incident took place last week when four girl students of MBBS noticed indecent comments against them on facebook. All the four girls immediately approached the Principal Dr Anil Chauhan complaining about the remarks posted on facebook. In the complaint girls alleged that Ashish Sakhlani had deliberately written indecent and obscene comments on facebook which outraged their modesty.
In the wake of complaint three member committee headed by Principal held a preliminary inquiry into the indeceidents. The other two members comprised colleges additional Director JS Pathania and Head of Physiology Roopali Parelewar. Inquiry found that Ashish Sakhlani had posted indecent remarks against their colleagues on the social networking site.
Further the College Principal Dr Anil Chauhan had recommended the matter to 12 member sexual harassment committee. College Principal further suspended Ashish Sakhlani from the hostel and from attending the classes till completion of separate inquiry entrusted to the college’s sexual harassment committee.
Sexual harassment committee is headed by head of the department of Gyane and Obstetrician, Sita Thakur has completed the inquiry.
Though the report is yet to be submitted at principal office but reliable sources ha said that committee members have endorsed strong action against Sakhlani for posting indecent comments against girl students.
Committee members have recommended six months suspension from classes and hostel for Sakhlani, sources say. Apart from this the committee sought that Sakhlani should be placed under supervision for period of one year in accordance with guidelines set for students indulging in sexual harassment.
Ashish Sakhlani a student of 2008 batch of medical student was room mate of Aman Satya Kachroo who died after being ragged by four senior students.
Sakhlani who had deposed before the court had testified the ragging incident which had resulted in death of Aman Satya Kachroo.
Sakhlani, who along with eight other students categorically stated they were ragged by four senior students Ajay Verma, Abhinav Verma, Mukul Sharma and Navin Kumar on the intervening night of March 6 and 7 in 2009.
He maintined that Aman Satya Kachroo had been beaten brutally along with other 22 students. Additional District and Sessions Court on Thursaday had convicted all the four students for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
