Four children who will be the FIFA Fair Play flag-bearers at the World Cup met President A P J Abdul Kalam, who told them that fair play was important in both sports and life.

"Fair play is not only important in sports but also in life. You should become good citizens not only of the nation but also of the world," Kalam told the children when they called on him at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Kalam, known for his fondness for kids, enquired about their ambitions and gave them an opportunity to ask questions on the subject of their liking in a freewheeling discussion.

Shreshth Shah from Kolkata, Ajiteshwar Singh from Delhi, Sachit Kamlesh Yadav from Mumbai and P S Sudarshan from Bangalore were picked through a contest, organised by ESPN-STAR Sports and Adidas, to be the FIFA Fair Play Flag-Bearers at the Australia-Croatia match in Stuttgart on June 23.

The kids were excited. "Going to the World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and we are happy, but the meeting with the President is like a dream come true," said one of them.

"Encouraging words from him have further inspired us," he added.
