The repair work on the Noida-Delhi lane of Kalindi Kunj bridge is almost complete and the carriageway is likely to be thrown open for the public by February 20.

However, the final decision to open the lane will be taken after an inspection by senior officials of the irrigation department on Sunday.

"On Sunday we will put rubber seals between the joints of the bridge. A team of senior officers will inspect the bridge on Sunday and decide on the date of its opening," said RS Yadav, executive engineer of the department.

According to officials, the two-day rainfall has affected the repair work of the bridge. Some resurfacing works and road marking on the carriageway are still to be done.

In the wake of the commuters facing massive traffic jams on the Delhi-Noida link road and DND flyway on a daily basis, the Noida authority had asked the irrigation department to finish the work by February 15, a week before the scheduled opening.

The irrigation department had said that it would try to finish the work by early this week.

The irrigation department says it can carry out the marking work even after the bridge is open for commuters.

Thousands of the commuters from Noida get stuck in massive snarls - especially during the peak hours - at DND Flyway, Delhi-Noida link road and other connecting stretches daily.

Commuters travelling from Noida towards Delhi and Faridabad have to take a detour via DND Flyway or Nizamuddin Bridge.

The Noida-Delhi stretch has been closed for a month from January 23. The Delhi-Noida lane of the bridge was closed for repair from December 23 till January 22.
