The Kandivli police on Friday arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife’s lover.

They said Satish Valmiki, a resident of Ekta Nagar, Kandivli (West), suspected that his wife Neetu of having a relationship with their neighbour Amar Tek (26).

Police records say Satish, a loader by profession, became agitated when Tek came to his home and started talking to his wife, while the couple was having dinner.

“He suspected Tek of having an affair with his wife and got into an argument with him,” said Senior Inspector Surendra Jaiswal, attached to Kandivli police station.

In a fit of rage, Valmiki attacked Tek on his chest with an ice pick, killing him within a few minutes, said the police.

Neighbours who learnt about the quarrel from the shouting and yelling informed the police.

The police suspect Valmiki had pre-planned the killing as he had stolen the ice pick about 10 days ago from an ice storage facility.

After the murder, investigators had launched a manhunt for Valmiki. He was arrested early on Friday.

Valmiki confessed that he wanted to flee to Delhi.

He also told the police that he had married his wife five years ago and had three children aged between two and four.

The family earlier lived in Chembur and Tek would visit his wife there too, when Valmiki was not home, he also alleged.
