Even as the process to elect two directors to the Kangra Central Cooperative Bank (KCCB) from this district has begun with cooperative societies choosing representatives to vote in the polls in the last week of August, a formal announcement in this regard is expected shortly.

The directors are elected by representatives of cooperative societies working in area and each society can send only one delegate to choose the director of their respective zones.

In Hamirpur district, which is divided into Hamirpur and Nadaun zones, 364 cooperative societies are linked with the KCCB. However, some of them have not chosen their representatives, the process for which expired on Wednesday.

Sources say Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) is likely to back its candidates from the last elections, Rasil Singh Mankotia from Hamirpur and Jaid Nath Sharma from Nadaun zone.

Babu Ram Mandyal, a leading cooperator, is also trying to re-enter the bank management by contesting from Nadaun zone.

Former deputy general manager of the bank HR Pathania claims the support of the Congress party, as he was allegedly victimised by the BJP and was denied promotion as the general manager of the bank.
