Two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawans were among the defence personnel killed in the helicopter crash that took place in the rain-ravaged Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

While Nityanand Gupta, who was also a member of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), belonged to Chaubepur sub-division of Kanpur Dehat, Sarvesh belonged to Haivatpur village of Jhansi. Nityanand, son of Mannalal Gupta, was posted in Ghaziabad.

According to Chaubepur police station head RS Ponia, the news of Nityanand’s death reached his family late on Tuesday evening. “All the family members have left Chaubepur to reach Ghaziabad where the body of the deceased jawan would be brought on Thursday morning,” he added. He said the body would first be flown from Uttarakhand to Ghaziabad and later would be brought to Chaubepur via road. He also said that district administration has made arrangements to perform his last rites with full honour. “He would be given the guard of honour,” Ponia said.

Meanwhile, locals have started making arrangements to pay a grand homage to Nityanand.

Sarvesh, who was the son of Rajaram, a constable in the Uttar Pradesh Police, was posted at Dehradun and had been working with the rescue team.
