A young married woman was kidnapped and brutally murdered by bike-borne goons in Kanpur city in the wee hours of Monday. The woman identified as Jyoti was a resident of Pandu Nagar in Kakadev area.

Jyoti was kidnapped while she was coming back with her husband Piyush Shyam Dasani after having dinner in Verandah restaurant at Company Bagh crossing.

Dasani, a franchise dealer of popular biscuit company, told police that eight persons on four bikes intercepted their car in Swaroop Nagar area while they were on their way back a little after midnight.

Before they could sense anything, one of the pillion riders dragged Jyoti out and attacked him with an iron rod when he tried to save her, Dasani said. The kidnappers then forced him out and took Jyoti away in the car they were travelling in. Within half an hour, Jyoti’s body with multiple stab wounds was found inside the car on the road in E-block, Panki.

The police tracked the car with the help of GPS system and found three knives, including a blood-stained one, inside it.

The autopsy confirmed the victim had 11 stabs wounds on her body and the attackers had also partially chopped off her fingers. Forensic experts have lifted fingerprints of at least five people from inside the car.

Angry over sudden spurt in crinimal incidents in the city, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including some MLAs, sat on a dharna at the office of the senior superintendent of police (SSP), KS Emmanuel on Monday, and demanded his transfer and early arrest of the culprits.
