india Updated: Jul 26, 2009 19:25 IST

Soldiers from various units of the Pangode military station paid tributes to martyrs of Kargil war on the 10th anniversary of 'Vijay Diwas' on Sunday.

At a solemn function at the army campus, Station Commander Brigadier Cherish Mathson and Lt Gen (Retd) S K Pillai laid wreaths at the war memorial.

Retired armed forces personnel also attended the ceremony. The function began with 'Salami Shastra' saluting the martyrs, followed by 'Shoka Shastra' (salute with reverse arms). A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect.

A few days back, the military station had paid tributes to Capt Jerry Prem Raj, Vir Chakra (posthumous), an officer from here who sacrificed his life in the Drass sector during the Kargil operations.
