Karnal woman delivers in open at govt hospital

In an unusual case, a woman delivered a baby boy in an open area at the government hospital here. The delivery took place on Saturday afternoon the when 8-month pregnant woman, Geeta Devi, was being taken to a laboratory for blood tests.

The delivery took place on Saturday afternoon the when 8-month pregnant woman, Geeta Devi, was being taken to a laboratory for blood tests. Doctors said the condition of both the mother and the baby was stable.

Geeta, 24, from Dachar village, Karnal, had come to the hospital after being referred from the community health centre at Nissing. She was accompanied by her in-laws and suspected to be an anaemic.

Geeta's brother-in-law Mintraj Singh said doctors referred her to the district hospital. When they reached here, doctors asked them to get her fresh blood test conducted at the Trauma Centre on the same campus.

While going for the tests, Geeta complained of labour pain. The hospital staff helped her in the delivery. Terming the incident unfortunate, deputy CMO Dr Ajay Bajaj said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident.
