Known for his proximity with Tamil cinema industry, DMK president and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has described the industry and its members as a 'balm' for his gruelling political routines.
'Many people vent their anger against me by constantly issuing statements criticising me. But I am least bothered about them. For, I consider the film industry and its members as the balm for all the abuse and criticism,' he said at the music launch of Tamil film,'Kanimozhi' in Chennai on Friday.
Karunanidhi, however, described as an 'embarrassment' the constant praise heaped on him by speakers in many a function, including cinema industry-related ones.
While expressing his inability to stop this, Karunanidhi however said that some persons, who could not tolerate all the praises being heaped on him, were reglarly issuing statements criticising him and hurling abuses.
He said cinema industry and its members, many of whom including iconic actors like Rajnikant and Kamal Hassan share a good rapport with him, which gave relief to him.
A playwright himself and known for razor-sharp dialogue, Karunanidhi has been of late participating in many film industry functions.
Amitabh Bachchan had recently participated in a grand felicitation function organised by the Tamil cinema industry and attended by the likes of who is who of Tamil cinema.
Recalling that he had started writing in 1938, Karunanidhi said he would continue to write. He also chronicled the changes cinema had underwent, from the days of touring talkies to latest stat-of-the-art plush multiplexes.
