Karuna ridicules Jaya’s remarks

india Updated: Mar 07, 2009 16:00 IST

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday ridiculed AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa’s remarks that she did not invite Congress to join the AIADMK front and wanted to know if that was the case why did she wait so long to deny the reports in this regard.

In a statement, he said Jayalalithaa had at a marriage function on Feb 19 asked Congress to snap ties with DMK in a bid to woo the party for an alliance with AIADMK.

The media carried her speech extensively, he said adding Jayalalithaa, who was known for issuing denials for each and every thing, had waited for more than 13 days to deny that she had invited the Congress to join the AIADMK front.

“Has she resorted to denial only after the Congress had rejected her invitation or to deceive the left parties, which are in alliance with her now and had clearly stated that they would not have any truck with any party which had ties with the Congress,” he asked.

Jayalalithaa had stated that the AIADMK victory in 1991 was not due to Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination and had launched a tirade against Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, late P V Narasimha Rao, late G K Moopanar and P Chidambaram, he said and wanted to know whether she did not know of the ‘past relationship´ while attacking these leaders.
