A gunbattle between two militants and security forces in Sopore town in north Kashmir ended on Sunday morning, prompting the police to launch a search for militants who could have died during the encounter.

The gunbattle had broken out on Saturday evening and it ended this morning. "We are searching the bodies of the militants," Superintendent of Police Sopore Altaf Ahmad Khan told PTI.

He said he would be able to give concrete information about casualties among the militants only after the search is completed.

The gunbattle erupted when the two militants who had taken shelter in a house at Khanday Filling Station near Sopore bus stand last evening fired upon police.
