Two policemen were killed when unidentified militants attacked a police van stationed outside a court in south Kashmir's Pulwama district around 30 kilometers from Srinagar.

Confirming the incident, a police spokesman based in Srinagar said, "the policemen were killed in a militant attack. Two policemen have lost their lives when militants attacked their vehicle stationed outside a court complex in Pulwama,'' the spokesman said.

Another policeman is reported to have sustained serious injuries.

All the injured policemen were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment where the two were declared brought dead.

According to the sources, the two militants in police uniform attacked the vehicle from a close range.

Sources identified the slain policemen as special police officer Farooq Ahmad from Lethpur in the district and Mukhtar Ahmad from Veernag in Anantnag district.

Army, special operation group of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force have cordoned off the area and have launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
