Kashmiri author Shahnaz Bashir's book 'The Half Mother' has been included in the year-end special issue of Forbes India magazine, as one of sixteen books to watch out for and pre-order in 2014.
'The Half Mother', the first novel by any Kashmiri writer being published by Hachette India, is the story of a mother whose son goes missing one day. As the Valley burns, the 'half mother' wages her own battle for answers. The book is expected to hit the stands in March this year.
The author, an assistant professor of media studies at the Central University of Kashmir, got recognition recently when his memoir 'A Crackdown in Natipora' was anthologised in 'Of Occupation and Resistance, Writings from Kashmir'.
The magazine, known for its surveys, said about the book, "The debutante author goes beyond the headlines for the other side of the Kashmir story."
