zarine and katrinaThey look so similar, they could well be sisters separated at birth. The striking resemblance between Zarine Khan, Salman Khan’s leading lady in Veer and his girlfriend, actress Katrina Kaif, is suddenly making news, now that Zarine has started making public appearances.

At an event in Mumbai last week, Zarine’s appearance, right from her clothes to her hairstyle and even body language, were uncannily similar to Kaif. This has turned into a talking point since. Filmmaker Vikram Kumar says, “My first thought on seeing Zarine was that she must be Katrina’s sister. There is such a strong resemblance.” Designer Charu Parashar explains the possible logic behind the similar style of dressing. “Zarine knows that she looks like Katrina, so she is trying to ape her dressing style. The saris that she is wearing are very ‘Katrina’ — plain colours, chiffon, sequins with slinky blouses.”

The resemblance is also a hot topic online. Blogger Olivecookie’s post, one of many on the subject, reads: “Salman now has not one but two girlfriend doppelgangers in his kitty.” A similar debate started when Salman cast Sneha Ullal, a look-alike of ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai, for his 2005 flick Lucky — No Time for Love. Psychiatrist Deepak Raheja explains the fixation, “This is a subconscious expression since Salman idolises the person he is in love with.”

However, there are those who feel that too much is being made out of the resemblance. A Bollywood actress was reportedly heard referring to Zarine as ‘Fatrina’, (a fatter version of Katrina).

Interestingly, all parties involved — Salman, Katrina and Zarine — deny noticing any resemblance. Zarine says, “We are quite different.” Katrina, too, says, “I don’t think I look like Zarine.”
