WHAT COULD be termed as the biggest crackdown by the Kanpur Development Authority, the enforcement squad got vacated its encroached commercial land worth Rs 25 crore from Kidwai Nagar area here today.

The Kanpur Development Authority enforcement squad had to face resentment from the women who laid down before the bulldozer trying to disrupt the drive.
However, presence of heavy police force checked the situation from worsening. The women were removed from road paving way for the commencement of the demolition drive.

According to the Kanpur Development Authority officials, the land approximately 23,000 square metres in size had been earmarked for commercial use.

According to the Kanpur Development Authority joint secretary and the in charge of the enforcement squad Anurag Patel, the cost of the land was about Rs 11,000 square per metre which when calculated comes out to be around Rs 25 crore.

He said there were about 125 illegal encroachments and illegal constructions on the land. However, the enforcement squad razed the illegal constructions and got vacated its land. The land is situated at O Block, Sabzi Mandi, behind Anupam Cinema Hall on Hameerpur Road in Kidwai Nagar area.

According to the Kanpur Development Authority officials, this was probably the biggest drive in terms of land value. The officials said the next drive would be carried out in Kakadeo area.

However, apprehensions are that the drive may not be carried out in the area on Wednesday, as the joint secretary IP Pandey, the in charge of the area, was transferred to Mirzapur district.

But, as he has not yet handed over the charge, the officials were expecting the drive to start on the said day.
