Kedarnath pilgrims rescued, fresh tracks for Badrinath

Uttarakhand’s disaster management authorities said the Kedarnath valley had been cleared of stranded pilgrims and now the focus was on Badrinath where nearly 7,000-8,000 pilgrims were still stuck.

Food and medicine were being supplied to them, the authorities said Fresh tracks are being built in an area of about 50 kms near Badrinath to evacuate stranded pilgrims, the authorities said. ITBP DIG Amit Prasad told reporters at Gauchar that this was being done to reduce dependence on weather, which might hamper air rescue operations.

These roads were being built in Mana outpost near the shrine. About 200 ITBP jawans were engaged in the exercise, he said.
