BJP chief Amit Shah’s new team will mark a generational shift by entrusting young faces in the party with important responsibilities. Shah is expected to announce his team after the party ratifies his appointment as BJP president at its national council on August 9.

Shah had a meeting with senior RSS functionaries on Thursday to discuss the broad outline of his new team. “The RSS has asked Shah to take decisions on organisational matters in consultation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former BJP presidents Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari,” an RSS source told HT.

Among the young faces, BJP youth wing chief Anurag Thakur, 39, a Lok Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh, could be inducted as general secretary in place of JP Nadda, 53, who is tipped to become a minister at the Centre.

Chhattisgarh leader Saroj Pandey, 45, who currently heads the BJP’s women’s wing, could also become general secretary. Mumbai North Central MP, Poonam Mahajan, 33, may replace her as head of the party’s Mahila Morcha.

West Delhi MP, Parvesh Sahib Singh, and Saharanpur MP, Raghav Lakhanpal, are both in the reckoning for Yuva Morcha chief.

Former Union minister Sanjay Paswan, 53, is the probable Dalit face in the team of general secretaries. He may replace Thawarchad Gehlot, who has become a Union minister.

From Maharashtra, state BJP chief, Sudhir Mungantiwar, could become general secretary, while P Muralidhar Rao, currently a general secretary, could become vice-president.

According to sources, Sultanpur MP, Varun Gandhi, 34, and Saran MP, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, 52, will be retained as general secretaries, albeit with bigger roles in organisational matters.

Former Jharkhand CM, Arjun Munda, 46, could also return to national politics.

Senior RSS leader, Ram Madhav, who has been sent to the BJP, is tipped to be a general secretary.

The 49-year-old will coordinate the activities of the government and the party.
