Three-time BJP MP Vinod Khanna was among 57 candidates in Punjab who filed their papers on the last day of submitting nominations for the final phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
As many as 198 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the nine Lok Sabha seats of Punjab going to polls on May 13, an election office spokesman said in Chandigarh on Friday.
Actor-turned-politician Vinod Khanna (BJP) is seeking re-election from his traditional Gurdaspur seat and his wife Kavita Khanna was his covering candidate.
While scrutiny of papers will take place on Saturday, the candidates can withdraw from the fray till April 27.
The Lok Sabha elections in Punjab will be held in two phases on May 7 and May 13.
Nine seats - Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kahdoor Sahib, Jalandhar (reserve), Hoshiarpur (reserve), Anandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib (reserve) and Faridkot (reserve) will go to polls on May 13.
As many as 79 candidates have already filed their nomination papers from four seats of Bathinda, Patiala, Sangrur and Ferozepur going to polls on May 7.
While maximum 40 candidates are in fray from Ludhiana seat, 14 will contest from Patiala Lok Sabha constituency.
The number of candidates in fray from nine seats are Fatehgarh Sahib 16, Amritsar 21, Jalandhar 22, Hoshiarpur 18, Anandpur Sahib 22, Ludhiana 40, Faridkot 21, Gurdaspur 18 and Khadoor Sahib 20.
