Kidnapped teenage girl dies in Karnataka, rape suspected

A higher secondary school girl student, who was suspectedly raped after being kidnapped by unidentified miscreants on October 29, died at a hospital in Manipal, police said on Saturday.

A higher secondary school girl student, who was suspectedly raped after being kidnapped by unidentified miscreants on October 29, died at a hospital in neighbouring Manipal, police said on Saturday.

The 14-year-old girl, a resident of Balebail near Thirthahalli in Karnataka's Shivamogga District, was forcibly pulled into a car and taken away when she was waiting for a bus to the school, police said.

She was abandoned three km away from the spot the same afternoon and the attackers fled the area. Locals who found the girl on the roadside informed her parents and she was taken to a hospital in Thirthahalli, police said.

The girl was admitted to a hospital at Manipal the next day after her condition worsened.

It was suspected that she was raped and the post-mortem report was being awaited, police said, adding, she died on Friday.
