A delay of even a couple of hours in the rescue could have proved fatal for the kidnapped six-year-old as the kidnapper he was in the custody of had planned to kill him.
Highly-placed sources in the Mumbai police said the kidnappers had planned to either throw the child into a river and remove all trace of him as they knew the police were on their trail. Sources said Sujit Bhind had suspected something had gone wrong when he did not receive any call from his contacts in Mumbai all of Tuesday.
“That’s why he tied the boy to a cot and kept five-six men to guard the child at night,” said an officer who from the rescue team. The officer said Mumbai police team and STF commandos from UP scanned five villages before zeroing in on Sujit’s hideout in the wee hours of Wednesday. “We pounced on the men and arrested them,” the officer said. Sujit told the police that he had planned to do kill the child in the morning, whether the ransom was paid or not.
