An eight-year-old girl, who went missing four months ago, was found lying in an unconscious state with her tongue chopped off near the jhuggi cluster in sector 10 on Thursday night. According to the police, three persons were arrested on Friday in connection with the incident.
The victim, Renu (name changed), also had burn injuries on her face and body which reveal that she had been physically tortured by the kidnappers. She was admitted to Dr Bhim Rao Multi-Speciality Hospital (district hospital) in a serious condition.
Recalling the turn of events, Renu's mother told HT on Friday, "On April 30, my daughter went out to play and never came back. Suspecting that my neighbour was behind her disappearance, I lodged an FIR against him. I found her lying unconscious on Thursday and immediately informed the police."
"Renu had burn wounds on her face and body. Her tongue was also slashed. She is traumatised," said Meena Mishra, the chief medical superintendent of the hospital.
Police sources said the victim somehow managed to convey the police that she had been kidnapped by one Sudhanshu Shekar, a resident of Bhangel.
"My daughter informed that she was kidnapped by Sudhanshu and not Kalu. Her tormentors locked her in a room at Bhangel. Injuries had been inflicted on her face by cigarette stubs and candle flame. They even smeared red chilli powder in her eyes," alleged the victim's mother.
Police have arrested Sudhanshu, his wife Poonam and his former wife Rita.
SP Anant Dev said, "Investigations have revealed that Sudhanshu was residing at Bhangel with his second wife (Poonam). His first wife (Rita) runs a tea stall near the jhuggi cluster in sector 10."
He alleged that Sudhanshu had illicit relations with the victim's mother in the past. "His wife suspected that Renu was Sudhanshu's illegitimate child," the SP alleged.
